Cecilia is a single mother who lives with her young daughter Maddy in Jaco, Costa Rica. Maddy’s father died of a heart attack right before she was born. Cecilia’s primary job is now as an elementary school teacher. Before that, she was taking odd jobs in cleaning and babysitting to survive. Her life was tough, and still is, since she still only makes just enough to survive and perhaps go enjoy an ice cream no more than once a month—because every dollar counts.

Now she is working part time as a teacher at TWO schools (one day and one online), and she’s still babysitting and occasionally doing cleaning work to do more than just pay the bills—but also to fund her university tuition!

Yes, Cecilia is now also enrolled in post-secondary education and is working towards her diploma in education, but with all of the extra work she has been doing just to survive, she has not had much time nor energy to spend on her own educational goals, which is why we’re pleased to announce that at the end of September 2020, we raised a thousand dollars to send Cecilia to help alleviate some of the financial pressure she has been feeling as a result of her current situation. Ceci and Maddy are both very grateful, and the videos above are of her daughter Maddy thanking us for our donations.
