7 things to have in your camera bag photographers.jpg

The trend of booking photographers for events, whether major or minor, has increased recently. Everyone wants their memories to be captured in the best possible manner to look back at one day and reminisce.

Numerous photographers have made a name for themselves in the industry. But what makes a photographer stand out amongst all others is their quality of service. Different photographers have different rates, but sometimes even the most expensive ones fail to impress.

But how can a photographer impress the client? Well, for starters, you can be more mindful of what the client may need and prep accordingly. The easiest way to do this is by ensuring that the client gets what they need at the venue. In this article, we will be telling you in detail what to put in your bag so your clients can be satisfied with your service. So keep reading!

7 Things A Photographer Should Keep In Their Bag

While there are numerous things that one can need on set, some are more important than others. Not only that, there are some items, which, if you have them when needed, can enhance your rating tremendously. So let's get started!

  1. Backup Camera

Accidents can happen anywhere. If you're a photographer, the one thing you definitely need to have is a backup camera. A camera often starts acting up before or even in the middle of a shoot, or the battery does, or it falls and gets damaged. In these cases, rescheduling the whole shoot is highly likely to put the clients in a sour mood.

To avoid such situations, it is extremely important to always keep a backup camera with you. While it may seem like an unnecessary hassle most of the time, there will be occasions when it saves you from embarrassment.

2. Prime Lens

Another important thing you should not forget to pack is a Prime lens. While Zoom lens offers more options for capturing shots from a distance, a prime lens is the one that is needed for high definition photography, portraits, low light photography, etc.

Even if you may feel you will not need a Prime lens on an event, it's better to keep it with you just in case you do need it. If such a situation arises, you can whip out your prime lens and get to business!

3. SD Card Holder

If you are starting out as a photographer, you need to invest in shockproof and waterproof SD card holders. You can also check out this cooler SD card holder which is much less durable, but looks awesome and sleek. When you are capturing hundreds of images, all of them are being stored on the SD card of your camera. So what happens if you break the SD card due to a bumpy ride or your bag gets wet?

Well, all your hard work is ruined. To avoid such mishaps, use shockproof and waterproof SD cardholders. These will absorb bumps along the ride and save your card from getting wet even if your bag does get wet, so your client can receive what they were promised.

4. Spare Batteries & Charger

We all know chargers and spare batteries and charger can be a lifesaver. Most events tend to run for long hours, sometimes even days. A camera battery is not made to run for that long. While chargers are important, they are rendered useless in a place where there's no charging facility. Many times fashion shoots take place in far-off areas that are away from civilization.

Driving for hours just to charge your camera at the nearest spot with electricity is impractical and will also ruin the client’s mood as they will have to wait. The remedy for this is to keep multiple charged batteries with you always. Any time a camera runs out of charge, just put in a new battery, and you're good to go!

5. Portable Cleaning Kit

Whether it's a wedding shoot, graduation, bridal, or baby shower, your camera lens is bound to get dirty because the dust in the atmosphere will get stuck on the lens. Long hours of photography means there will be a greater amount of particulate matter stuck to your lens and ruin the quality of your photographs.

However, as a professional photographer, you should always carry a portable camera cleaning kit with you. These kits are readily available and have easy-to-use tools that can help you clean your camera lens in a matter of minutes. This way, you can capture sharp images throughout the shoot and make a good impression on your client.

6. SD Card Dongle

Everyone these days readily uses social media. People take pictures and upload them on their social media accounts whenever a wedding or an important shoot happens. So by the time you can come back and upload your pictures to the computer and post them, they're already old news.

To upload pictures on the go, invest in an SD card dongle. A dongle is a small accessory that you can pair up with your phone. An SD card dongle will let your phone read your SD card, save photos to your gallery and upload them or send them to anyone.

7. Additional Stuff

Get yourself a lightweight camera backpack, or a hard case to keep your camera secure so you don't have to lug a massive weight around wherever you go. Additionally, you can keep stuff like chewing gum, hair ties, tampons, sanitizers, and wipes to score some extra points with your client. You can also invest in an Air Tag to avoid wasting time searching for your backpack on a busy set with lots of gear.

As a photographer, your job is to ensure the client is happy with your service. So anything that increases their comfort should be on your list too.
