Introduction

Winter is coming soon, so that can only mean one thing; winter photoshoot!! Winter is one of the best times to get a fun little photoshoot in, with cozy jackets, warm mittens and hats, snow pants and boots. These are all perfect for a photoshoot with your loved ones, or even by yourself. For these ideas, you don't need a professional, (but it would be much better if you did hire one).

Solo Photoshoot Ideas

In The Snow

There are so many things you can do in the snow that would make for a great photoshoot. Play around with it, snow is very malleable in more ways than one, you can use it to get the best photos out of this fun little photoshoot.

Snow Angel

Snow angels are a classic and a staple in photoshoots. It also shows that you like to have fun, and that you are someone you can relax around. Just a shot taken from a high angle as you are making the snow angel should do the trick for this photo.

Drawing In The Snow

If you don't want to get snow all over your jacket (and maybe even inside it), then you draw in the snow. Something appropriate, like a heart or a bear. Something simple so you can do it in about five minutes. If you want to go the extra mile, you can get rid of your footsteps with some photoshop magic, but this step is optional and isn't fully necessary, but could really help the outcome of the photo.

Winter Activities

By winter activities, I mean things like skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, stuff like that. If you are someone who does that often, get someone to bring a camera and get some great photos in action.

Skiing And Snowboarding

Skiing and snowboarding are similar because they often use the same terrain. So if you can get someone to film for you or you can get a gopro/helmet camera, you would be able to get so many amazing clips and photos. Having a third person view would add a level of depth hard to get anywhere else, so if possible, get someone to film for you as it will increase the quality of that shoot spectacularly.

Ice Skating

Ice skating can be figure skating, ice hockey or just casual fun in a local ice skating rink. As a figure skater or hockey player, you might already have someone taking photos for you, but if you don't, make sure you have someone taking your photos, and make sure they are good at it. But for the casual skaters, taking photos by yourself might be a bit hard if you're skating at the same time, but if you trust yourself, there's no reason not to.

Inside Your House

If you think you have a residence with decoration worth showing off, you can shoot your photos there. It's also much more convenient, with the most preparation you might have to do is just some organizing and putting on something nice.

Cozied Up On The Couch

This is probably the most comfortable pose/spot you can do, since it's literally you on the couch doing something comfortable. You can be holding a mug of hot chocolate while watching a christmas movie, or be holding a nice novel as you snuggle up under a blanket. The possibilities are endless. Taking the photo might be a hassle though, if you don't have someone taking it for you, since you're going to have to use a timer on your camera and get on that couch as fast as possible, but the results can speak for themselves.

Cooking Something Delicious

Winter is time for some of the best dishes one can make. So why not show yourself making something delicious on the stove. With the ingredients on the counters beside you, a nice big pot where there might be a hefty portion of stew, curry, pasta, whatever it is you want to make. This idea also lets you wear an apron, which you won't exactly get to show off too often.

In The Snow

Playing in the snow is something that no one is too old for. So whatever age you and your friends are, you should not skip out on some fun times with your friends in the snow.

Snowball Fight

Snowball fights are a classic winter time activity. It was such a fun thing to do when we were kids, so why not revisit those memories by having a snowball fight with all your friends. Making sure that someone gets the fight in action.

Drawing In The Snow

Competition is always a great way to make certain activities fun! You can have a competition of whoever has the best drawing on the snow and make the loser do some sort of punishment. My suggestions are: pay for food afterwards or have to host everyone at their place. Something like that could be a great motivator for people. Make sure you have impartial judges so no one can get an unfair upperhand, and someone to get the best possible pictures.

Outdoor Winter Activities

Winter activities include all sorts of things, some of which are much better with friends. Things that you should have on your to do list over the winter, and as you do these things, get someone to photograph your experiences.

Ice Skating

Ice skating can be fun when you're alone, but with friends it's a lot more eventful. Going to a public rink can show authenticity and it can have a different feel to it in general, both in the photos and as you are skating with your friends.

Snowboarding And Skiing

Snowboarding is also an activity that's enhanced when there are friends around, especially if you don’t snowboard often or haven't done it ever. Even if your friends are novices too, it's more fun to mess up with and around people you know and are comfortable with. With snowboarding and skiing, it's best to capture the moments with a gopro, but a sturdy selfie stick should suffice.

Indoors

While winter is a great time to do things outdoors like snowball fights and snowboarding, oftentimes we just want to stay inside with friends and hang out. That's why if you are planning a photoshoot with your friends, doing it indoors might be a good idea.

Gingerbread House 

Gingerbread houses are a staple of winter and the holidays. Making one with your friends is lots of fun and a great way to trick people into making food for everyone. Again, making it a competition could add a level of excitement that you wouldn't get otherwise. Like mentioned earlier, have impartial judges and a good cameraperson.

Movie Night

Movie nights are not exclusive to winter, but winter is probably the best time to have movie nights because of the Christmas movies, the environment and the food. You can cozy up under a blanket with some hot chocolate while you're watching a Nightmare Before Christmas or Home Alone. You want everyone to enjoy the movie to its full extent, so get the photos done and out of the way early and get the cameraperson to join you.
